Final ⑦❺ Score
The squat is the first event in a powerlifting competition. The bar is placed on the lifters shoulders and is walked out from the rack. The lifter bends their legs until the crease of the hip is lower than the knee joint, at which point the lifter stands upright finishing the movement as they started. Athletes are given one minute from when the speaker announces that the bar is loaded to set up, walk out the bar into their stance, and receive the “Squat” command from the Chief Referee. The top two things people do that prevent them from getting a “squat” command are: 1. Not having their knees locked 2. Not standing upright enough
The deadlift is the final event in a powerlifting competition. This event usually decides the outcome of the competition, since many medal placings get determined by the last pull. The deadlift is when the barbell is lifted from the floor so that the lifter is standing in an erect position with their shoulders back and knees locked. Athletes are given one minute from when the speaker announces that the bar is loaded to set up their stance and grip, and initiate upward movement of the bar. There is no start command in deadlift, so the attempt begins as soon as a pronounced attempt to pull on the bar has occurred.
The bench press is the second movement in a powerlifting competition. The movement is performed laying on a horizontal bench with the lifter lowering the bar down to the chest, pausing the weight, and then pressing the bar upward to a locked out position. Athletes are given one minute from when the speaker announces that the "bar is loaded" to set-up the bench press, receive a lift-off, and get the "start" command from the Chief Referee. The following is an example of a proper starting position on the bench press.

The lifter with the highest combined weight in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk wins in their weight category. If lifters tie in total weight, the lighter lifter ranks higher. An example of scoring might include a Snatch best attempt of 120kg and a Clean and Jerk best attempt of 145kg, resulting in a total score of 265kg. Key physical requirements in weightlifting include power, or explosive strength in hips and legs; flexibility in shoulders, hips, and ankles; stability through core and joint control; and coordination for timing and bar path. Weightlifting is governed internationally by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), with strict categories based on weight class, such as 61kg, 67kg, 73kg for men and 49kg, 55kg, 59kg for women.

About this font

Mars is a sturdy interpretation of select vernacular signs from North America. Its designer blended diverse flavors — conjuring the rocky beaches of Seattle, the streets of New Orleans, and eventually the harbor of Marseille, France.
Mars came to life in 2016 as a 2-widths minifamily, with one cut for each width. The dynamic duo consisted of a pumped-up extended style, and a slimmer condensed. A “Standard” width cut joined the pack in 2021. These three cuts were designed to work together, while maintaining their own singularity in a wide variety of design projects.
10 years ago in New Orleans, Garnier came across a metal typeface named Venus at John Fitzgerald’s letterpress studio. Fresh out of school, Garnier was visiting the workshop to print his first business cards. Fitzgerald only had four complete lead typefaces to compose the card, and Venus instantly captivated Garnier.
When Garnier returned to France, he began researching the genre in which his references evolved, and took inspiration to create his own interpretation. This creation features traits that are unique to Garnier’s design intentions: a large x-height, a robust “Regular” cut, and generally low contrast between thick and thin strokes. Most notably, it had sharp terminals; a distant echo of American Gothics, the sans-serif alphabets used by American sign painters. Garnier instilled most of his style in the Condensed series. While some of his references were very “industrial,” in the sense that the O’s are flat-sided, Garnier gave Mars a handcrafted appearance, with elliptical O’s, rather than rectangular ones.
Mars’ unique aesthetics stem from its singular drawing logic and its shape progression across four widths: Condensed, Standard, SemiCondensed, and Extended. The uppercases almost follow a distinct design rule where every stroke has to be beveled. This feature is especially striking in its capital letters E, F, G, L, T, and Z. In the lowercase design, the stroke connections stand out. In its narrower width, they appear ultra-smooth, while in wider widths, they adopt an angular character with a distinctive two-stroke ductus. Many glyphs in Mars share flared terminals as a design feature. These stroke endings are visible in c, e, f, g, s, y, C, G, J, S, 2, 3, 9. A discerning user also ought to notice the trapezoidal shape of the i and j dots.
