Gilles Poplin
Gilles Poplin is an art director and graphic designer, with a strong background in broadcast design. He currently serves as director of the Penninghen design school in Paris.
Under the tutelage of Roman Cieslewicz, he began his career as Marc Atlan's assistant, working for Comme des Garçons. Inspired by designers like Vignelli, Rams, Aicher, Saville, and Farrow, Gilles Poplin co-founded the photojournalism magazine “De l‘air” and was its associate art director. He also contributed to shaping the identity of the contemporary art magazine "02" alongside Sylvia Tournerie. In 2007, Gilles Poplin founded his design agency, specializing in television and interactive applications. He combined brand image and user experience in pioneering interactive editorial devices for media and industrial clients, including Canal France International where he serves as a media expert for countries such as Thailand, Tunisia and Algeria.
After several mandates as graphic arts and art direction instructor at Penninghen school,. In 2010, he became the school's Director in 2016. At Penninghen, Poplin expanded the role of design in brand development, strategy, and management. He reshaped the school's areas of expertise, created new disciplines, and redefined the teaching methodology's objectives based on the school's history and heritage.
