Production Systems acquires BAT Foundry

New ownership enables continued development of pioneering French typeface library.

Paris, January 12, 2016 — Production Systems (known for its font foundry Production Type) has acquired all assets of BAT Foundry, absorbing the LLC company known as Bureau des Affaires Typographiques on December 31, 2015. The current library of critically acclaimed fonts will continue to be available for licensing at

“This is good news for BAT Foundry, and a stimulating opportunity for Production Systems,” said Jean-Baptiste Levée, President of Production Systems. “I am pleased that BAT Foundry can pursue its activities and maintain the availability of its catalogue, while benefiting from the services and structure of Production Systems. I look forward to develop a stronger presence of BAT Foundry fonts across channels.”

Levée has a close relationship with BAT, having co-founded the company in 2009 along with Patrick Paleta, Stéphane Buellet and Bruno Bernard who remained with the foundry after Levée’s departure in 2013. Buellet welcomed the news, confident that  the foundry will thrive under Levée’s care. “It was important to our team that one of our founding members could extend this initiative,” said Buellet. He highlighted the compatibility of the two groups, declaring that “BAT Foundry’s philosophy will endure with Production Systems. High artistic and technical standards were among our values from the beginning and it will continue to be under the new ownership.”

Co-founder Bruno Bernard concurred, “The launch of BAT was an important event in our professional lives, and has left a strong impression on the French type scene. I am glad the adventure doesn’t stop and continues in the hands of one of its founders.”

Indeed, beyond maintaining its current library, BAT Foundry will continue to progress under its new administration. A new website, new license models, newly mastered fonts, and self-hosted webfonts are all on the roadmap. Not to mention new typeface releases, including work from celebrated French designer Franck Jalleau.
